World of magic
By Stella A. Estremera

WHO can resist magic? Not the young, not the old. Magic mesmerizes and confounds. And that's what happened when magicians from all over Asia came to Davao last month to wield their magic.

Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Thailand, and the Philippines, were brought in full force by Davao's own magic wizard, James Infiesto.

They made ribbons into sticks and disassembled boxes that an assistant just laid her body in, all assembled as it should. It was a grand illusion that kept the children raising their hands to be volunteers.

A favorite among the children was the ventriloquist with his doll.

But nothing could beat the 12-year-old magician from Thailand. He was so small in his coat and tie; he looked like he had just entered Hogwarts.

But the magic and flair of his performance marked him as not just another freshman. He was good, and because he was but a child, the children in the audience at the Cap Auditorium; most likely a number of them suddenly nurtured an ambition to become a magician as well.

The show had so many magicians; it was extended for three hours, with each magician performing for just a few minutes. With the lateness of the hour, it was time to go. Too bad, we failed to watch the star of the show -- the International champ from China. But then, there were the kids to return to their lolas and it was already way past their bedtime.

Anyway, James promised a tighter, more fantastic magic show next year. Everyone should watch that.
