Min-iCon targets 300 participants

THE biggest investment conference in Mindanao, the Mindanao Investment Conference or Min-iCon, is eyeing 300 participants composed of investors, traders and visitors, an official of the Mindanao Business Council (MinBC) said.

In an interview Monday, Ednar Carlos Dayanghirang, MinBC executive director, said they are surprised with the interest of industry groups in Mindanao to participate in the event.

"The confirmation from industry groups is still on-going, but we target 300 participants. We coordinate with the different DTI offices in Mindanao," Dayanghirang said.

Dayanghirang said that initially, thirty groups from the rubber industry in Mindanao have already confirmed participation in the conference.

The conference, which works on the theme "Drive the Wheels for Peace... Invest in MindaNow", is organized by the MinBC in cooperation with the Mindanao Economic Development Council (Medco), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Energy (DOE), the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), the City Government of Davao, and in partnership with development institutions.

The conference aims to boost Mindanao's trade and investments through the creation of more small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by way of promoting featured investment opportunities.

"There will also be presentations by an officer of the Planters Bank for SMEs. We also invited other banks and various financing facilities," Dayanghirang said.

Aside from the presentations, the conference will also highlight an investment exhibit to be participated in by different regions in Mindanao to showcase various trade and investment opportunities.

The conference will be held at the Marco Polo Davao on November 25 to 26, 2008. (JGRS)
