Thursday, November 13, 2008 4 officers shortlisted as Caro's replacement
THE Senior Officers Promotions and Placement Board is still deliberating on who would replace Police Regional Office (PRO)-Southern Mindanao Director Andres Caro, who will vacate his post on Friday as regional police chief.
Caro has been promoted to the newly created Directorate Integrated for Police Operations (Dipo) in Eastern Mindanao.
Those being considered are Chief Superintendents Peter Tanggo, director of Northern Police District; Josefino Cataluña, director of Police Security and Protection Office in Camp Crame; Ireneo Bacolod, director of Civil Security Group in Crame; and Lino Calingasan, deputy director for administration of PRO-Southern Mindanao.
All four generals are from Batch 77 of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) and batchmates of Caro.
Caro said he will handle bigger responsibilities as head of the Dipo chief in Eastern Mindanao. His office will still be inside the police regional headquarters in Catitipan, Buhangin in Davao City.
The turnover of command is scheduled this Friday with no less than Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno and Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Jesus Verzosa attending. The two will also formally open the Dipo office.
Caro assumed post as PRO-Southern Mindanao chief in December 2006.
As Dipo chief, Caro is in charge of monitoring the criminality, terrorism and insurgency activities in Eastern Mindanao. (BOT/With Peng Aliño)
