Marforis welcome Rody's move to re-survey contested land

THE Marforis in Davao City welcome the move of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to re-survey the contested area in Madapo Hills to settle a dispute between the family and an alleged illegal settler.

Simeon Marfori, who is also president of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industries Inc. (DCCCII), said that a re-survey of the land would settle the conflict, although he admitted he was surprised that the mayor initiated such.

"It has been very difficult for us to try and preserve the integrity of our properties," Marfori said.

He added that what used to be a vast tract of property has already turned into as little as more than a thousand square meters.

"We have 12 hectares under the river. It was lost due to the change of course of the river," Marfori said, adding that they are also laying claim on a two-hectare accretion that was formed adjacent to their property in Madapo Hills.

The DCCCII president also blamed the decriminalization of squatting, otherwise known as the Lina law.

"It is very difficult to clean the property and keep it free from squatters, but it is very easy to enter and gain benefit on a property for those who do not own it," Marfori said. "I guess I am also speaking for other people who have properties who fallen prey to illegal settlers." (CPM)
