Notre Dame spikers face Ateneo girls

THE Notre Dame of Midsayap College (NDMC) will clash against the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) in the first game scheduled at 9 a.m. of the First Mindanao Children's Games (MCG) volleyball competition Friday at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina Gym.

Both teams are seeing action in Pool A of the single round robin format tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) Region 11.

Their encounter will be followed by the Pool B match between Doņa Pilar Learning Center and Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC), Davao Oriental against UM (Pool A), UMSD vs Rizal Sped (Pool B), AdDU vs Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Central Elementary School (Pool A), DPLC vs UMSD (Pool A) and NDMC vs Davao Oriental (Pool B).

Nine games will be featured on Saturday where the top two teams in both groups will advance to the crossover semi-finals set on Sunday morning.

The Pool A number 1 will collide with Pool B number 2, while Pool A number 2 will be pitted against Pool B number 1. The winners will arrange a titular showdown while the losers will slug it out for third place.

Trophies and medals await the winners of the volleyfest, which is organized as part of the MCG that aims to inculcate values and lessons of peace, unity, sportsmanship and discipline to the children participants.

MCG project director Joseph Encabo said individual awardees will also receive medals.

Encabo, meanwhile, bared that the chess competition will be held at the SM City Davao Events Centre while the football event will be staged at the Tionko football grounds and swimming at the Ladislawa Country Club in Buhangin.

The rest of the events, including little league baseball, table tennis and taekwondo, will be held at UM Matina campus. (MLSA)
