Twelve matches up in MCG football

A TOTAL of 12 games will be played as the First Mindanao Children's Games (MCG) football competition kicks off at 9 a.m. Friday at the Tionko Football Grounds along Quimpo Boulevard, Davao City.

The bootfest, sanctioned by the Davao Football Association (DFA), will feature categories for private and public school teams.

Southpoint School A tests the mettle of Monserrat in the private division opener while Mintal Elementary School battles Catalunan Elementary School (MES) in the public division curtain raiser.

The other private division matches pit Holy Child School of Davao against Dona Pilar Learning Center, Ateneo de Davao University vs Indonesian School, Southpoint-B vs SOS Children's Village, Southpoint-A vs Indonesian School, and HCSD vs SOS.

In the public school category, Zonta Elementary School collides with Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Elementary School, Malabog Central Elementary School vs Matina Central Elementary School, Bangoy Elementary School vs Roxas Elementary School, Mintal vs Matina CES, and Zonta ES vs Roxas.

The top two teams in each bracket will advance to the crossover semi-finals where Group A Rank 1 plays against Group B Rank 2 while Group A Rank 2 takes on Group B Rank 1.

The semifinal winners will contest the title in a championship match set on Sunday while the losers will have a shootout for the third place in the event organized as part of the Games spearheaded by the Philippine Sports Commission with the Sports for Peace in Mindanao, Inc. (MLSA)
