Saturday, November 15, 2008 Tango is new Southern Mindanao police chief
CHIEF Superintendent Pedro Tango was named the new police regional director for Southern Mindanao in a turnover ceremony that a government official considered as "the saddest turnover ceremony in Davao."
Secretary Ronaldo Puno of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Friday's turnover ceremony was the saddest of all the ceremonies he has witnessed, so sad that it had the atmosphere of a retirement.
During his speech, Puno said the tone of the speech of former Police Regional Office (PRO)-Southern Mindanao Director Andres Caro II was like that of a retirement speech.
Almost all of the lady staff of Caro listened on with tearful eyes.
"But not to worry as I will not take him (Caro) away from you, he will still be holding office here only that he will be on a higher plane of responsibility," Puno said.
Caro was replaced by Tango, who is former director of the Manila's Northern Police District.
Caro, who served as PRO-Southern Mindanao chief for 23 months and 6 days, is promoted to a new post as the chief of the Directorate of Integrated Police Operations for Eastern Mindanao, with an area of responsibility spanning the regions of Northern Mindanao (Region 10), Southern Mindanao (Region 11), and Eastern Mindanao (Caraga).
Caro assumed office last December 8, 2006.
Average length of tour of duty of a police officer is around two years.
During the turnover ceremony, Caro was also awarded the Medalya ng Katapatan sa Paglilingkod by the Secretary of DILG.
On the other hand, Tango said he is going to continue the action plan of his predecessor and vows to uphold the integrity of the police force.
"We will set the example in work ethics, and remain to be on the ground with our personnel," Tango said.
"We will push for the personal growth of our people," he added. (CPM)
