Saturday, November 15, 2008 Notre Dame dribbers, AdDU spikers triumph
THE Notre Dame of Midsayap College (NDMC) dribblers and Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) girl spikers scored rousing wins at the start of the Mindanao Children's Games (MCG) at the University of Mindanao (UM) in Davao City Friday.
Anthony Barrios, donning a yellow head band, led the charge for the Bong Bautista-coached NDMC squad that crushed Collegio de San Ignacio of Davao City, 80-29, in bracket D.
The 12-year-old Barrios, son of a farmer in Libongan, North Cotabato, drilled in 15 points. Jason Arances, Lucky Ace Tabifranca and RM Tapucao added 14, 11 and 10 points, respectively.
"I hope we can maintain our defense and make it to the finals. We are just a one-month-old team. I didn't expect we could win this big in our first game," Bautista said.
The NDMC is a selection of players from conflict-stricken places in North Cotabato like Baliki, Poblacion and Libungan. Most of his players were also participants in the just-concluded Sports for Peace that was also held in Midsayap.
In bracket A, the City of Mati, Davao Oriental trounced Rizal Sped-Davao, 70-18, while the Dona Pilar Learning Center (DPLC) of Davao subdued host UM, 82-28.
Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet elementary girls champion AdDU, meanwhile, whipped NDMC, 25-8, 25-9, in pool A of the girls volleyball event while Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) spanked DPLC, 25-11, 25-14, in pool B. MLSA
