Friday, December 19, 2008 NCCC sets footrace for a cause
IT'S all systems go for the NCCC Cares' Run for a Clean Environment set to kick off at 5 a.m. on Sunday in an out-and-back course from the NCCC Mall Davao.
Aileen S. Gajo, NCCC Public Relations Council (NPRC) administrator, Friday said in a statement that the fun run features the three-kilometer and six-kilometer categories.
"Interested participants must bring scrap materials of at least two kilograms or one car battery aside from the P150 pesos registration fee to be able to join the fun run," Gajo said.
Gajo said accepted items include copper/bronze, alloy, softdrink aluminum cans, scrap iron, plastic water bottles of assorted sizes, metal tin cans, assorted scrap paper, corrugated boxes or boards, at least five empty printer cartridges, empty sacks, car batteries, empty freon tanks and used tires.
All scrap items, according to her, will be deposited to NCCC Cares' materials recovery facility (MRF), and sold to its buyers. Funds earned will finance the operations of its MRF and the waste segregation program of NCCC.
From NCCC Mall Davao, she said the 3K runners will pass through Juna Avenue, Loreto and Calamansi streets before turning right to Tulip Drive and going back to origin. The 6K runners, meanwhile, will take the stretch of Juna and University avenues, turning right to Quimpo Boulevard and returning to Mac Arthur Highway towards the mall.
Gajo said the first 500 registrants will receive race shirts. Top finishers of the event will receive prizes. Proceeds of the event will fund the Barangay Tagurano Reforestation Project in Toril.
Application forms are available at the NCCC Cares Office, 3rd Floor, LTS Building, R. Magsaysay Avenue (above MOST Institute), and at the Surico Parking area, NCCC Mall Davao during mall hours. Interested runners may call telephone number (082) 305-6810 for more details.
Registration forms, however, will be accepted until 4:30 a.m. on race day.
