So Long Annika Sorenstam
By Imee Garcia

A couple of jokes for men:

Golfer 1: "I just got a new set of golf clubs from my wife!"
Golfer 2: "Great trade!"
Golfer 1: "My wife says she's leaving me if I don't give up golf."
Golfer 2: "What are you going to do?"
Golfer 1: "I'll miss her."

Here is a joke for women:

"If you love someone, set him free...
If he comes back, he will always be yours.
If he doesn't come back...
He was never yours to begin with.
But if he just sits in your living room,
messes up your stuff,
eats your food,
uses your telephone,
takes your money,
and doesn't appear to realize that you had set him free...
You either married him or gave birth to him."

Annika Sorenstam played her last competitive round at the Dubai Masters for women. "I felt at peace. I really felt very content," she said. Her reason for retiring "is to focus on family and business interests."

She has always been my favorite LPGA player. She is only 38 years old -- too young to retire. I hope she will be back someday to play again or maybe work as a sports commentator. "I started my career with LET, and it is fitting to end it with an LET event," she said. I will surely miss her.

My second favorite player is Michelle Wie. Her career in the past has been crazy. At one time, she preferred to play against men. She did beat a lot of guys but it wasn't enough to give her a win. Good thing she is still very young. She started playing golf at the age of 4. Did you know that at 4 years old, she was able to hit the ball one hundred yards off the tee? Do you know how tall she is? 5'11. She was born on October 11, 1989, which makes her 19 years old. A big future lies ahead of her. Hopefully, 2009 will be her year.

By the way, you may be wondering what LET means. LET stands for Ladies European Tour. If you get to watch a female golf match on TV, it is usually an LPGA event. (LPGA means Ladies Professional Golf Association). We hardly ever see a LET event on our cable TV. I wonder why.

Who are the players in the Ladies European Tour? Some of the famous ones are: Helen Alfredsson (Sweden), Laura Davies (England), Sophie Gustafsson (Sweden), Anja Monke (Germany), Janice Moodie (Scotland), and Lisolette Neumann (Sweden).

A lot of men are not interested in watching the girls play. That is so sad.

Many of them watch the ladies only if they are "interesting" or pretty enough to watch.

FYI boys, there are women on the LET who are attractive. One is Nicole (Nikki) Garrett who is from Australia. The other is Maria Verchenova who is from Russia. If tennis has Anna Kournikova and Maria Sharapova, golf has Maria Verchenova. Check them out on Google.
