Saturday, December 20, 2008 Police chief downplays twin blasts in Iligan
SOUTHERN Mindanao is fully secured in time for the holiday celebrations.
Police and military authorities assured this in light of the Iligan City bombing Thursday that resulted to the death of two persons and the wounding of 45 others.
In a text message, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Southern Mindanao director Pedro Tango said their security infrastructure has long been in place.
"I have directed all PRO units to be on full alert even during the holidays. I am asking everyone not to be affected by what happened in Iligan but with the added advice for all of us to be cautious and vigilant as we celebrate the festive mood of Christmas," Tango said.
Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson Major Randolph Cabangbang, on the other hand, assured the public that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is closely coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) in ensuring the security of Davao Region.
An intelligence officer also advised Dabawenyos to be cautious of the terrorist threat which, he said, affects even the strongest countries. (BOT)
