Saturday, December 20, 2008 Reader: Traffic a mayhem, road courtesy forgotten By Ben O. Tesiorna
A SUN.STAR Davao reader agreed on the idea to make Davao City a retirement haven but said that to realize this, the city's traffic must be drastically improved.
Bong Vicente posted his reaction at the Sun.Star website on Thursday, December 18, saying that Davao's road infrastructure is not conducive to retirees.
"The roads are narrow, lousily constructed, and totally congested. In the event of an emergency, a patient will die waiting for the traffic to ease up," Vicente said.
He said that driver's must also learn to be road courteous to ease traffic congestion.
"The presence of traffic lights is the only visible sign of a semblance of traffic management. Other than that, jeepney drivers load and unload passengers in the middle of the road, bicycles and trisikad drivers ride through the highways with reckless abandon, drivers do not observe road courtesy," he said.
In his parting message, Vicente said Davao's traffic at present is a good deterrent to enticing retirees to live here.
"Davao's traffic is a complete mayhem and absolutely disgusting! I can't for the life of me imagine how retirees would like to retire in Davao City," he ended.
