THE Magallanes Elementary School (MES) got off to a blazing start after beating the F. Dizon Elementary School, 21-8, 21-8, in the opening of the Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte-Vice Mayor Sara Z. Duterte Pahalipay sa Pasko Sportsfest Sepak Takraw competition at the City Hall Drive Friday.
In other games, the Wangan National High School routed Tamayong National High School Team B, 21-3, 21-4, while the Catalunan Grande National High School escaped a 19-21, 21-17, 15-10 victory.
The dama tournament opens Saturday at the Osmeña Park, while the age group tennis event kicks off at the Ecoland Phase 4 Tennis Club courts.
Other events opening on Sunday are softball at the Mintal Central Elementary School, billiards at Reynaldo's Hall along Mt. Apo St. and table tennis at Smashville Fitness Center.
The triathlon and track and field competitions, also part of the 18-event Christmas sportsfest, concluded last weekend.
The annual sportsfest is presented by Mayor Duterte and Vice Mayor Duterte in coordination with the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office.
