Cases to pile up after long holiday
AN AVALANCHE of complaints is expected to fill the City Prosecutors' Office (CPO) on January 2, 2009, the first working day of 2009, a court employee said.
In an interview with Sun.Star Davao, Maria Theresa Nabafar, of the receiving section of the CPO, said they expect to receive a barrage of cases to be filed after the long government-imposed holidays.

The official holidays declared by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo are from 12 noon of December 24 up to January 1, 2009.
"Kung long weekend nga, madami na ang kaso na na-file, what more with the 10-day holiday period (If during long weekends, there is already an increase in the number of cases filed, how much more for the ten-day holiday)?" Nabafar said.
Like most government offices, the City Prosecutors' Office will have its last working day on December 24 and will open on January 2, 2009. Work on the 24th will only be half-day.
The long holiday celebration, the longest declared by the government, is because Christmas Day and New Year's Day both fall on a Thursday, leaving just one day before the weekend.
