REIGNING Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte-Inday Sara Duterte Softball Tournament champion Tagum City is out to defend its crown from a good number of top caliber teams in the tournament's 2008 edition, which opened last Sunday at the Mintal Elementary School.
Eight teams are out to dethrone Tagum led by Matina Boys, Davao City Water District (DCWD) and Digos City. The other competitors are Panabo, Toril, University of Mindanao-Matina, Mintal and the combined batters from Tugbok and Mintal.
The Matina Boys are fresh from their victory in the Barangay Mintal Softball tournament held in same venue just this month. They are also the Kadayawan 2008 champions.
According to tournament director Joaquin "Boy" Sarabia, the championship rounds will be a four-day event using the single round robin format where the top two teams will vie for the finals.
The champion team will receive P8,000, while the second place is assured of P6,000. The third finisher gets P4,000 and the fourth P2,000. SDR
