DAVAO City Vice Mayor Sara Duterte is ready to sit as city mayor should her father, City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, makes true his intention to resign from office in 2009.
In a text message, the young vice mayor said her father has recently been telling them of his desire to resign from office.
She said the mayor, however, gave no reason as to why he wanted to resign nor did he give definite date when he would resign.
"Depende na siguro na sa iyaha (It all depends on him) when the time comes, if the time comes. That's his call, basta ako dili ko mu-resign (as for me, I don't intend to resign)," Sara said.
Asked if she finds the shoes of her father difficult to fill, the vice mayor said she has no other choice since it's her duty as an elected official of the city.
"Ok ra nako (It's okay with me). Part of my duty," she said.
In the City Government's Christmas party for the media Sunday, Mayor Duterte said he may resign a year before his last term as local chief executive expires.
He said with Vice Mayor Sara Duterte to replace him, he is assured that the city is in good hands.
The mayor, however, said his decision is still not final as he is still weighing things out.
Duterte has long been expressing his desire to go on a long vacation so he could recuperate from his various ailments.
