Inday Sara gets credit for Cammayo's release

DAVAO City Vice Mayor Sara Duterte is ready to perform all duties expected of her as mayor and more.

This was the opinion of her father, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who credited the vice mayor with the release of the communist rebel group’s two prisoners of war.

In his television program "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa" Sunday, Duterte said Inday Sara was in constant contact with National Democratic Front (NDF) officials while negotiating for the release of PO3 Eduardo Tumol and First Lieutenant Vicente Cammayo, who were freed by the rebels on December 24 and January 6, respectively.

He said with this achievement in Inday Sara's young political career, she could very well replace him anytime. The father revealed that the communist rebels even requested that Inday Sara talk with them in the mountains.

However, he said if Vice Mayor Duterte would go up the mountains, he will have to accompany her.

"Inday is already capable of negotiating with the NPA (New People's Army). But if she goes up, I will have to go with her. Not that I don't trust the rebels, it's just that there are bandits in the area as well," the mayor said.

The older Duterte had publicly declared last month his desire to resign as mayor, noting that the vice mayor is already capable of replacing him.

Vice Mayor Duterte, on the other hand, also declared she is up to the task of mayor. (BOT)
