Mendoza: Gratitude to stakeholders
By Lorenzo E. Mendoza
Scribe's corner

DIRECTOR'S Cut: (This portion features the thoughts of DepEd 11 Regional Director Susana Teresa B. Estigoy, Ceso IV, for all stakeholders and recipients of efforts to improve the basic education) I do not consider my job as plain work --- rather it is my life. "We have to continually examine what succeeds and fails, and why. We have to uphold and live true to our battlecry: 'Isulong ang Karunungan, Labanan ang Kahirapan!'"

*****

Below is the message of Deped 11 Regional Director Susana Teresa B. Estigoy, Ceso, for all those who in one way or another had helped Deped 11 meet its targets for 2008:

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

"Through this column, allow me to express my sincerest thanks to all our stakeholders who helped us in our efforts to fulfill our responsibilities and commitments for the year 2008. Deped Region 11 never ran short of partners in whose hearts are spots reserved for our schools and for our children. The members of the Deped Family share with me the feeling of deep gratitude to:

"1. Our Honorable Secretary Jesli A. Lapus for the resources allocated to the Region, for the special trainings afforded to key officials and school managers of Deped in prestigious training institutions such as AIM, for e policies issued in support of regional initiatives;

"2. The 11 congressmen of the region for their vigilance to ensure that our schools get a fair share of budgetary allocations, and for the understanding and compassion they have extended to the directorate and the superintendents in their efforts to meet the congressmen's expectations and those of Deped, as well as of the other public who we also serve;

"3. The city mayors, provincial governors, municipal mayors, and other local officials for consistently serving as the pillars of support and inspiration of superintendents and school heads in all their programs and projects,

"4. The parents for believing that education is still the best insurance to a bright future for our children;

"5. The government of Australia for giving us the Beam project and in the process made Region 11 a pioneer and purveyor of innovative systems and approaches in delivering educational services to our young;

"6. Members of Region 11 tri-media who unconditionally played as Deped's partner for public information;

"7. Private school managers and heads who fostered a strong spirit of brotherhood;

"8. Our Adopt-A-School partners for selflessly sharing their resources with our public schools, and to all heads of other national agencies.

"With all the unwavering support of all our stakeholders, I look forward to 2009 with much optimism because I do trust that together - sharing the same vision, adhering to the same commitment, working on the same agenda under the same spirit of selflessness - there is no mind that we can leave empty, no child that we can leave behind.

"We simply just have to believe in each other." - RD Susana Teresa B. Estigoy, Ceso IV.

Deped Secretary Jesli A. Lapus urged incoming first year high school students for school year 2009-2010 to register in public or private schools of their choice this January 2009.

Lapus said the move seeks to monitor the number of graduating Grade 6 pupils who will continue in high school. "This way, the department can take immediate measures to reduce the dropout rate in schools, especially between Grade 6 to first year high school," he added.

The enrolment for school year 2009-2010 is still in June.

Deped Order 62, s. 2008 stipulates that registration should be within the four Saturdays of January 2009.

This clarifies earlier media reports saying that enrolment of incoming first year high school students has been moved to January.

"Through the early registration scheme, Deped will be able to identify those graduating from Grade 6 and take action if there are students who are in danger of dropping out from school," Lapus added.

In registering, the graduating Grade 6 pupils have to bring with them their certification from the school principal that they are candidates for graduation for school year 2008-2009.
