Wednesday, January 14, 2009 Angala seeks more Davraa swim glory By Marianne Saberon-Abalayan
MULTIPLE gold medalist Salvador Angala III of Davao City will try to defend his seven golds as the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) meet swimming competition plunges into action on February 27 to March 1 at the Mati Centennial Sports Complex, Davao Oriental.
Salvador III, now a senior student at the Ateneo de Davao University (AddU), captured five individual golds and two relay golds in last year's Davraa Meet also held in Mati.
The only child of Salvador Angala Jr. and Rachel captured the secondary boys 200m freestyle, 200m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 400m freestyle golds on top of leading DCAA's victories in 4X50m freestyle relay and 4X100m medley relay events.
Angala, however, has yet to win a medal in the Palarong Pambansa, having failed to bring one in his past three stints in the national sportsfest for elementary and secondary athletes.
But with all his talent, Angala might pull off a surprise in the Tacloban Palaro slated April 26 to May 2.
Salvador III will be joined by Ateneans Edgar Fernan Isaguirre, Brian Alric Panganiban, Joshua Albert Patricio and Sam Daniel Trinidad in the boys team along with F. Bangoy National High School's Jhonny Barani, Abnil Amiladjid, Abner Saimodin and Juan Carl Oliver Alih and Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School's Erick George Uy.
Seeing action in the secondary girls division are Ateneo's Sweet Angel Altamera, Althea Benigno, Michaela Isaguirre and Ethel Mariz Pobre, F. Bangoy's Shiela Kasim, Danila Esmale and Jadie Gomez, Davao Special School's Mary Pauline Fornea, DRANHS' Trixie Mhel Violan and Davao Wisdom Academy's Danilla Camyl Evangelista.
DCAA will also field 10 boys swimmers and 10 girls tankers in the elementary level.
