Davao archers hope to find targets in 2009 Davraa meet

ROBERTO Beltran and Dioscoro Marqueza Jr., two outstanding archers from the A.L. Navarro National High School who formed part of Davraa's gold medal team in the 2008 Palarong Pambansa in Palawan, will be on the frontline for the Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) when the 2009 Davraa Meet archery competition unfolds on February 21 and 22 at the Bansalan Central Elementary School.

Beltran, whose father is a tricycle driver, is a junior student at ALNNHS. At 14, he was the youngest member of the Davraa team that won the Palaro secondary boys archery team gold medal in Puerto Princesa last year.

Should DCAA win the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) title, Beltran will yet see action in his second Palaro set on April 26 to May 2 in Tacloban.

Way back in Palawan, Beltran said in an interview with Sun.Star Davao that he looks forward to competing in the Palaro again.

That gold medal in archery saved the day for Davraa after it suffered a total medal shutout in swimming on the final day of the Palawan Palaro.

Aside from Beltran, DCAA will also have reliable Marqueza on its cast to beef up its title-bid in this year's regional competition despite the formidable presence of Davao del Sur that produced the two other 2008 Palaro gold medal team performers in the persons of Ranzel Gealon and Rodolfo Rivas Jr.

DCAA will also have on its fold ALNNHS bets Joel Patagan and Lloyd Nil Perocho with coach Alex Manceras.

The Randy Alonzo-coached DCAA's secondary girls archery team, meanwhile, will also try to make its presence felt with the services of Kathleen Jayme, Jenny Rose Arado, Catherine Barbarona and Natashia Micah Paida. (MLSA)
