AREAS in the region prone to landslides and floods are being closely monitored as a cold front continues to bring heavy clouds and rain, said Office of the Civil Defense-Southern Mindanao operations officer Antonio Cloma.
"Naa tay report naa naay baha diri sa duha ka lugar pero dili delikado, mag-subside lang pud dayon ang tubig sa lugar. Mutaas ra pud ang tubig kung naay ulan (We have received reports of floods in two areas but the water usually subsides soon after a rainfall. It's not a critical situation yet)," Cloma told Sun.Star, referring to the towns of Asuncion and Dujali in Davao del Norte.
He said they are also monitoring Mt. Diwata for landslides.
"Kini na lugar man gud, dali maligid ang yuta mao ginabantayan gyud namo. Sa ani man gud na mga sitwasyon na sige ang pag ulan, dako ang posibilidad sa pag landslide ug pagbaha sa atoa (Diwalwal is a landslide-prone area, that's why we are always monitoring it. In this kind of weather, a landslide is a very likely event)," Cloma said.
He said they have a standing memorandum to all provincial governors and disaster coordinating council chairs to alert their members on the imminent threat.
"Naa na tay memo para ana ug ang mga disaster offices should be manned 24 hours para kung naay mga emergencies, makabalo dayon ta (Our memorandum orders disaster offices to be manned 24 hours so that we can respond quickly to emergencies)," Cloma said, adding that communities in flood and landslide prone areas should be always vigilant.
