Thursday, January 15, 2009 Water district maxes out Toril well capacity By Ben O. Tesiorna
NEW applications for water connection in the Toril area have been suspended by the Davao City Water District (DCWD) after its water system reached its maximum capacity.
Imelda Magsuci, spokesperson of DCWD, said their Toril and Lubogan systems have already reached full capacity. She said if they continue connecting water to more households in Toril, many of their clients would start experiencing low water pressure.
The DCWD Toril water system currently has 6,699 service connections while its design capacity is for only 5,422 service connections. The Lubogan system, meanwhile, has 5,368 connections but its design capacity is for only 5,390 connections.
Magsuci said some households in Toril are already complaining of low pressure.
"How much more kung tatanggap pa kami ng mga panibagong connections, mas hihina yung pressure sa area," Magsuci said.
It was learned that DCWD is planning to construct a new well in both Toril and Lubogan, which would supply more water to the area. This was stalled after prospective bidders failed to comply with all requirements.
Magsuci said they have already conducted three public biddings. Their last bidding was on December 2008. Since there should be a three- to four-month "rest period" in between biddings, she said the fourth bidding would be in April this year.
Magsuci said they hope the project would finally be awarded so they can start the project.
The capacity of the proposed production wells is 4,193 for the Toril system and 5,030 for the Lubogan system.
