Guv hits PNP laxity in drive v. illegal drugs By Neil C. Rio
GOVERNOR GEORGE Arnaiz on Monday challenged town police chiefs in Negros Oriental to stop "ignoring" the proliferation of illegal drugs in their respective jurisdictions.
Arnaiz voiced his discontent during the annual courtesy call Monday of all the province's chiefs of police led by P/Sr. Supt. Drusillo Bolodo, provincial director of the Philippine National Police, in his office.
Arnaiz said drug trafficking is happening in some parts of the province but that the chiefs of police in these areas were lax in their drive against the menace and some denied the existence of the illegal drugs trade and abuse.
Subsequently, he challenged the police chiefs to strengthen their campaign to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs and illegal gambling.
The governor said drug trafficking is society's major problem and that the police should exert more efforts to stamp it out.
The courtesy call is an annual activity of the provincial PNP every first Monday of the New Year.
During the visit, the chiefs of police, the provincial police director and the governor discuss major issues affecting the peace and order situation in Negros Oriental.
Meanwhile, Maj. Kevin Conroy, Assistant United States Army Attache of the US Embassy flew in to Negros Oriental on Monday for a briefing with the provincial PNP command on the social, geographical, peace and order, and anti-insurgency condition updates in the province.
The close door meeting was held at the command's conference center in Camp Fernandez, Agan-an, Sibulan town.
Maj. Conroy arrived Monday noon aboard a US King Air Aircraft from Tagbilaran City, and immediately on arrival he was whisked off to Camp Fernandez for the briefing.
After the three-hour briefing, the US army major boarded the same craft for Bacolod City.
