Husband burns wife on New Year's Eve

CANLAON CITY - Police in this city arrested a farmer who allegedly set fire to his sleeping wife inside their house in Oval Complex, Barangay Panubigon, Canlaon City just before the New Year.

The report identified the victim as Gertrudes Canasa and the suspect, her husband, as Loreto Canasa, both 55 years old.

It said that the incident happened an hour before New Year's Day when the husband, believed to be drunk entered the house and lit an improvised torch over the sleeping woman.

As the torch tilted down, flaming petroleum fuel flowed down burning different parts of the woman's body.

The victim sustained first degree burns on her face, shoulder, breasts, and arms and was rushed to the Canlaon City District Hospital by neighbors.

Police later arrested the woman's husband for charges to be filed against him. Neil C. Rio
