CHO advises v. visits to countries with Sars
By Victor L. Camion

THE Dumaguete City Health Office advised residents against visiting Hong Kong and other countries affected by the killer pneumonia also known as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars).

Dr. Erlinda Cabrera, city health officer told Sun.Star that although the Philippines has been removed from the list of Sars-affected countries, people should be cautious.

Cabrera issued the statement following the death through Sars of a Filipino domestic helper in Hong Kong Monday.

Adelina Dalingay, 39, a native of Abra was the first Filipino worker to die of the disease overseas. She died at Hong Kong's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Another Filipino maid in Hong Kong, Merlita Luzon, is confined at the Prince of Wales Hospital also in Hong Kong for Sars.

A stricter quarantine measure is now in place for passengers flying in from China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam.

Cabrera urged residents to observe for 14 days the health condition of any of their relatives returning home on vacation from other countries especially Hong Kong and Singapore.

The Department of Health requires only a two- to 7-day observation.

She urged Dumagueteños to report immediately to the city health office or any authority any incident of Sars clinical symptoms in their relatives.
