Driver tags Guinit in Candau-ay killing By Victor L. Camion
A STUDENT nabbed Thursday morning for driving a motorcycle without license pointed to Dumaguete City's most wanted man Rayboy Guinit as the killer of a Valencia businessman in Barangay Candau-ay last March 2.
Marvin Reyes, 19, of Canday-ong, Barangay Calindagan, and a senior student of Negros Oriental High School identified Rayboy Guinit as the suspect who shot 49-year-old businessman Francisco Tesio Waro, former Barangay tanod of Dahili, Valencia.
Guinit is the principal suspect in the series of hold-up incidents in the city and is now the subject of a police manhunt.
The City Government has offered P200,000 worth of projects to any barangay whose officials could identify the hide-out of the suspect.
Reyes told Sun.Star he was with the Guinit whom he first knew to be James Pinili, when the killing took place.
"Ako maoy nagdrive sa motorsiklo nga among gisakyan," Reyes said adding, "Pero siya maoy nipusil." (I drove the motorcycle but he did the shooting.)
He added that he did not know why Guinit killed Waro.
"Nag-una namo ang biktima nga nagsakay sa iyang motorsiklo, unya giingnan ko niya nga pakusgi," Reyes said. (The victim's vehicle was ahead of us; he told me to drive faster.)
The student said Guinit ordered Waro to stop but the victim drove even faster instead.
"Wala man gyud mohunong, iyang gikasuk-an dayong giposil, wala man dayon matumba maong iyang gisikaran, ug pagkatumba iyang gi-usba'g posil," he said. (Waro did not stop so Guinit scolded him and shot him. He did not fell at once so Guinit kicked him and when Waro fell, Guinit shot him again.)
Reyes said although he and Guinit stole the victim's motorcycle, they did not rob the victim.
Police Officer 2 Roberto Getaruelas and two traffic officers nabbed Reyes and his companion, a certain Luigi Folio, for driving without license during a police and confiscated the DT 125 motorcycle that was later identified by Waro's family as belonging to the victim.
Reyes was detained for few hours and was released after the reglamentary period.
Investigator SP04 Dominiano Distrito Jr. told Sun.Star Reyes would be charged for possession of a stolen motorcycle and as accessory in Waro's killing.
