Fire safety violations go down By Jimmy P. Abayon
FIRE safety violations in Dumaguete City went down this year based on the initial annual inspection of the City Engineer's Office covering more than 3,000 commercial houses.
Violations included undersized wirings, overheated wires and grounded wirings, which were most of the chief causes of fire.
Engineer Erasto Crispo, section chief of the electrical division of the city engineer's office, said most establishment owners are fire safety conscious compared to previous years.
Crispo said a task force from the city engineer's office and the city fire station has been created to inspect business houses and he appealed to homeowners to hire only competent and registered electrical engineers in repairing or connecting their electricity.
On the other hand, SFO1 Danny Abad, fire safety inspector of the city fire station, appealed to the public to observe no smoking signs, fire exits and to put out lighted cigarettes properly to prevent fire incidents.
Abad also urged parents to be responsible and not leave their children unattended.
