Guv releases P9.5M to lower power costs
By Joe A. Medinilla

NEGROS Occidental Gov. George Arnaiz released P9.5 million to reduce by 70 centavos to 90 centavos per kilowatt-hour the cost of power rates charged by the two electric cooperatives in the province starting April, this year.

Governor turned over to the managers of Negros Oriental Electric Cooperatives I and 2 the separate checks amounting to P9.5 million at Capitol.

Noreco I General Manager Angelito Carriaga who received Wednesday a check amounting P1.787 million said the amount will reduce the power rate in the first district by 90 centavos per kilowatt-hour.

On Thursday, Arnaiz turned over to Noreco II General Manager Ephraim Taclobthe amount of P7.805 million that will be used to lower power rate costs by P0.70 per kilowatt-hour.

The money was taken from the royalty fees paid by the Philippine National Oil Company to the province as its share in the use of the geothermal energy in its production site in Barangays Ticala and Puhagan in Valencia, Negros Oriental.

Earlier, the governor released P.277 million as refund to the Dumaguete City Oil Mill Inc. and P.970 million to Dyno Nobel Philippines.

The total amount released by the province to lower the cost of electricity is P10.8 million.

This covers the average purchases of electric power from the National Power Corporation and PNOC from 1999 to 2001.
