LTO warns discourteous drivers
By Victor L. Camion

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Dumaguete City warned drivers of public utility vehicles, especially tricycles, against discourtesy and refusal to convey passengers.

Driver found guilty of refusing to convey any passenger will be fined P1,000.

Rodolfo Abringe, LTO licensing division chief of the Dumaguete district office told Sun.Star the guilty driver will also be charged for arrogance and fined an additional P300.

The warning was issued after LTO received daily complaints against drivers of tricycles locally known as pedicabs refusing to convey passengers.

Abringe said some drivers refuse to convey a passenger alone if the destination is far from the business center of the city particularly during rush hours.

He said LTO is now coordinating with officials of the city Traffic Management Office (TMO) in Dumaguete to address the problem.

Abringe clarified that the law covers all passenger vehicles from MCH to passenger buses, jeepneys and multi-cabs.
