By Rowel Credo

BACONG, Negros Oriental - The Philippine National Police (PNP) caught two boys and two girls for violating Ordinance No. 3, the ordinance requiring minors to observe curfew hours.

SPO2 Galileo Quio said the teenagers were detained at the police station but were released the next day without fines.

Their names were however placed in the police blotter to keep track of future violations.

Third violation means they will be charged for violating the ordinance.

Mayor Lenin P. Alviola officially enforced the ordinance on March 31, 2003 which prohibits youth aging below 18 years of age from wandering or loitering in any public or private streets, road alleys, parks, plaza, public market, beach or any public places within the limits of the municipality of Bacong from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

Insp. Rodolfo H. Serrano, chief of police of Bacong, has ordered his men to monitor public places during the observance of curfew hours.

Violators of the ordinance, approved in 1978, will be fined with not less than P10.00 but more than P50 or face imprisonment of not less than two days but not more than ten days or charged at the discretion of the with subsidiary imprisonment at the rate of P8.50 per day.

Before curfew time, the local police will first sound a whistle at 9:45 p.m. to warn the minors and another at 10:00 o' clock in the evening to signal curfew time.

The whistle will be sounded again at 4:00 o'clock in the morning to announce the lifting of the curfew.

Quio minors who will be accompanied by their parents, guardians or adults in charge of their custody are exempted from the law.
