Basay council hits mayor for bypass By Jimmy P. Abayon
BASAY -- Basay Vvice Mayor Ernesto Vargas has criticized Mayor Beda L. Canamaque for allegedly not informing the members of the Municipal Council about a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with a South Korean businessman and the donation of two buildings in Maglinao village to the municipality.
Vargas, former mayor of Basay, said the chief executive should have informed the council about his transaction so the members could act on it.
Vargas said it depends now on the law to determine if what the mayor had done was illegal.
In the first agreement, Noh Seok Ki appointed Mayor Canamaque as his operations manager to handle the cutting, loading and hauling of scrap iron from the former CDCP mining site in Maglinao village.
The second agreement concerns Noh's donation of the 746 square metre VIP Guest House and the 510 square metre Roman Catholic Chapel both in the former CDCP site in Maglinao to the local government of Basay.
The former mayor said the SB received a copy of the donation only after it had been signed.
"Which to me, I believe is illegal," Vargas said.
