GMA will run in 2004 -- Villanueva
BAIS City Mayor Hector Villanueva, a Lakas-NUCD stalwart in Negros Oriental, assured residents here that President Arroyo would run in next year's presidential election.
Villanueva issued his projection following his recent meeting with the President in Malacaņang Palace last week.
He said that President Arroyo might be sincere in her pronouncement not to run, she will have no choice but to join the race because of the strong endorsement from different sectors including business.
During the Malacanang meeting, Villanueva said he assured the President of his full support.
Villanueva said former education secretary and Senator Raul Roco along with five congressmen headed by former first district representative Jerome Paras invited him to join Roco's party, which he turned down, when they visited him in Bais City recently.
"Ako silang giingnan nga nakasaad na ko nga motabang sa kasamtangang Presidente sa nasud ug dili nako siya pakyason," Villanueva said.
The mayor said Arroyo has been sincere in implementing her vision for the country.
"Nakapakita man sab siya'g maayong performance, although dili ang tanan nagbato'g katumanan at least nilihok siya para sa nasud ug sa mga lumolopyo niini," he said, adding, "Mangita na sab ta'g lain nga wala pa ' ta kaseguro kon unsay abilidad."
Villanueva said that Arroyo has all the rights to run in the next election based on the Constitution. VLC
