City checks karaoke bar
The City Government is assessing the findings of an inspection team deployed late this week to look into the complaints of residents of Bantayan village against a karaoke bar.
The residents earlier asked Mayor Agustin Perdices to help them solve their problem against the alleged "extremely loud noise" from a sing-along bar at Silliman Beach.
Teodulo Luchavez, one of the complainants, said that for years the residents requested the owner of the bar to minimize the noise, but their requests were ignored.
The residents said they also complained to and petitioned village chief Albert Aquino.
But the amicable settlement reached at that time was ignored and the bar has been continuing its operation.
"Please remember that the noise from the sing-along bars has become a citywide issue since it is disturbing to hear repetitive noise in our neighborhood. The sick and old individuals, especially the hypertensive individuals are agonizing under dangerous stress," Luchavez said in his complaint to the office of the mayor.
The bar, said the residents, belongs to a certain Veronico Duran and started operation in 1990.
They said they personally requested Duran to tone down the sounds but "such pleadings fell on deaf ears." PIO/PR
