Indian moneylender loses P1.4M to thieves
AN INDIAN moneylender lost P1.4 million from a thief or thieves who broke into his rented apartment along Aldecoa Drive, Daro late last week.
The victim Iqbal Singh, 41, told police the culprit(s) carted away his brown attaché case containing more than P1.4 million in cash, his passport, a reentry permit, his alien certificate of registration, immigrant certificate of residence, fixed deposit certificate, bank account, and other important documents.
Singh said the money was his collection from his 20 percent interest in his money lending business, and that this was the first time he was robbed in the last ten years he stayed in Dumaguete city.
The Indian national said he made sure that the main door and his room were securely locked when he left the apartment around 8 p.m. for Maslog village in Sibulan for a business deal.
Returning several hours later, Singh said he discovered that the apartment's door knob was already unlocked and once inside, he found his attaché case missing.
Investigators believe the thief or thieves might have entered the apartment through the main door, destroyed the cabinet padlock in his bedroom and stole the attaché case.
Police believed the culprit(s) could have used a master key to open the apartment's main door. VLC
