Remollo kin confirms mayoralty bid in 2004
By Victor L. Camion

BUSINESSMAN Antonio Remollo formally announced before the media Monday evening his bid to challenge the mayorship of Dumaguete City in the May 2004 elections.

At the same time, Remollo said he is prepared to face all political intrigues, particularly the heavy equipment issue that had hounded the administration of his second cousin, former Mayor Felipe Antonio.

The businessman, who was based in the US for several years, said he has all the documents to support his answer to the heavy equipment issue and the accusations against their purchase by the past administration.

Remollo said he is disappointed with the present city administration for failing to pursue the plans and programs of his cousin's master plan for development that would have pushed the city's potential for full economic development.

He said that his cousin helped put Dumaguete City in the national map, but black propaganda snuffed out the former mayor's program to open up the city to outside investment.

Remollo, son of Edgardo Remollo, finished mass communication at Silliman University in 1993 and has worked under the office of former Vice President Salvador Laurel.

Antonio said he is not yet a member of any political party but he claimed that he already has gained support from several barangay captains, his classmates, friends, and family.

Former Mayor Remollo is backing his cousin's mayoral bid.

The prospective candidate said his priority, if he won, will be to pursue the master plan of the former mayor and to guide the city towards a modern and liberated Dumaguete for the modern Dumagueteno.
