In-depth probe ordered into shooting of official
By Jimmy P. Abayon

MAYOR Rodolfo Gonzales Jr. of Valencia ordered his local police force to conduct an in-depth investigation into the circumstances behind the shooting Sunday night of a village official during a dance in Dobdob.

Wounded in the shooting were Dobdob Councilor Gilberto Darias, 43, who was hit on the right arm and Evangeline Sotabinto, 35, who was hit by a stray bullet.

Valencia police director Angelito Ramada said police investigators have identified the suspects.

Gonzales ordered Ramada to arrest the suspects immediately to prevent further abuses and to maintain the peace and order condition in the village.

Darias said that before the incident, a group of young men hurled an empty bottle into a village tanod who was then announcing the end of the dance.

During a confrontation with other tanods, one of the young men allegedly brandished a bolo.

Darias said he approached the group and settled the trouble. On leaving though, he heard two gunshots and discovered he was hit on the arm.

Residents said the incident was the first time in their village.
