Unicef stops illegal recruitment in NegOr

ILLEGAL recruitment of minors in the province of Negros Oriental has stopped following the active participation of the United Nation's Children's Fund (Unicef), according to the top official of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) here.

Labor and employment officer Kendrick Villaluz said illegal recruiters are now hesitant to recruit laborers, particularly minors, for work outside the province because of the active information and dissemination drives launched by Unicef through its anti-child labor program in the province.

Unicef's 5th Country Program for Children (CPC-V) in Negros Oriental is especially active in monitoring illegal recruitment.

The Dole, however, is not discounting possibilities that some poor families encourage the recruitment of their children to increase their income.

Villaluz urged the public to immediately report to the Dole office any incident of illegal recruitment to protect minors. VLC
