Perdices slams Ombudsman
By Victor L. Camion

MAYOR Agustin Perdices has renewed his attack against the Ombudsman-Visayas for its refusal to investigate the P25 million heavy-equipment purchased by the previous administration from a Cebu-based supplier.

Mayor Perdices said he will question the decision of the Ombudsman, saying it will not come up with a "fair and exact" decision unless it conducts an actual inspection to determine the real status of three of the four equipment: the bulldozer, vibratory road roller, and a payloader.

The present administration believes that of the four equipment, only the Korean-made backhoe was brand new.

"Unsaon pagkab-ot sa hustong imbestigasyon kon pinaagi lang sa papelis," Perdices stressed adding, "Bisan gani ang mga eksperto sa makina, dili makakab-ot sa hustong paghukom kon dili hilngon."

He said that until now, the Ombudsman has not released its findings on the complaints he, along with some city councilors belonging to his political camp, filed against former Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo before the Ombusman Visayas.

The complaints were based on allegations that the purchase of the heavy equipment was anomalous.

Former Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling, on the other hand, lambasted City Hall for continuing to claim that the controversial equipment were not brand new.

Maquiling said that if true, the present administration would not have used them for City projects when the case is still pending before the Ombudsman Visayas.

"Kon mao, gidawat na nila nga brand new ang heavy equipment kay ilang mang gigamit," he said.
