Bacong exec dares Alanano: charge me!

DAUIN, Negros Oriental -- Mayor Lenin Alviola of Bacong Thursday dared Mayor Rodrigo Alanano of adjacent Dauin municipality to drag him to court over his alleged blocking of an electrification project in three remote villages of Dauin.

Alanano said Alviola blocked the installation of electrical extension lines funded by the Municipal Government in interior Sitio Magay, Bugnay village, Bunga, and several areas Masaplod Norte in Dauin town.

Alanano said for the last two years, workers of Negros Oriental II Rural Electric Cooperative (Noreco II) had tried to install extension lines connecting 22 electrical posts in Sitio Magay, 12 posts in Sitio Bunga and 4 posts near the residence of Joven Abellon in Masaplod Norte.

But the Bacong mayor stopped the project Alviola for reasons known only to him, he said.

Alanano said the Municipal Government released more than P22,000 for 40 electrical posts to be erected in the Bugnay, Bunga, and Masaplod Norte.

The municipality, he said, likewise allotted P3.6 million for the electrification program.

The mayor is apprehensive the extension line project will not materialize because of Alviola's interference.

Sitio Magay and Bunga lie about five kilometer from the National Highway.

He said the four posts near the Abellon residence in Masaplod Norte, 400 metres from the national highway, remains to be connected because of Alviola.

Noreco II has 15 Noreco II member-consumers.

Mayor Alviola is the father of Noreco II's 4th district board director Lenny Joy Alviola.

Noreco II Institutional Service Department Head Leodevico Elmaco confirmed the electrification project in the four villages of Dauin has been delayed and many applicants are awaiting its implementation.

But he refused to elaborate saying the issue rests with Engr. Ephraim Taclob, Noreco II general manager.

"Basta gud sa implementation sa project, direkta man gud ning gidumala sa GM," he said.

Alanano said Governor George Arnaiz assured to discuss the matter with Taclob to solve the problem which he believes stems from his political conflict with Alviola.

Dauin is a stronghold of the Nationalist People's Coalition while Bacong is with Lakas-NUCD.

Alanano said he is apprehensive that the people of Dauin could turn against Alviola because of his interference in the town's affairs.

"Ang akong gikahadloka'g batuon nya na siya sa mga tawo sa lungsod ba inig anhi niya tungod sa iyang ka-arogante," Alanano said.

SUN.STAR tried to get in touch with Taclob but he was out of town as of press time. VLC
