PPA okays AOMARI project

THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) approved the application of AOMARI Rapid Transport System Corporation for clearance to develop a P5-million private port project in Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

Alfonso Cusi, PPA General Manager, gave the approval in his letter to Engr. Antonio Ouano Sr., AOMARI president, dated December 3.

Cusi, however, stressed that the approval will be subject to two conditions.

These are, that the site of the proposed private port facility will be 50 meters left of Osmena Street towards Diputado Street along Taņon Strait.

Further, he said, the facility will cater only to roll-on-roll-off vessels and cargoes.

Cusi advised Ouano to secure a permit to construct from the port district manager's office.

The PPA official attached a checklist of requirements for issuing a permit to construct.

The list includes an application for a permit to construct; the detailed cost estimates, building plans and other technical specifications, design computation; working drawings signed by a licensed civil engineers; a letter advise of clearance to develop a private pier facility; an approved foreshore lease agreement order award, and the company's tax identification number.

Sibulan Mayor Antonio Renacia earlier allowed AOMARI to resume its construction of the proposed P5-million port projects after the Municipal Council failed to resolve the issue on who will build the project.

This also came after the Council failed to pass a resolution supporting PPA.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) issued an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) to AOMARI for the banca port project.

The mayor believed PPA had no basis to refuse to approve AOMARI's application for the proposed "banca port" in Sibulan. JPA
