Alarm raised over planned mass leave of poll workers By Maricar Aranas
THE Dumaguete City Commission on Election (Comelec) office is alarmed over the reported planned mass leave of Comelec field officers that is expected to affect the May 10 political exercise.
City Comelec officer Manuel Advincula said the mass leave may push through unless the Central Office address the grievances of its field officers.
Advincula explained that the manifesto distributed to all Comelec field offices is a means to air their grievances.
He explained that field officers are disappointed because of the Central Office's failure to give them their benefits and other bonuses, including their still unpaid overtime.
At the provincial Comelec office, election supervisor Rogelio Benjamin said he can not guarantee that Comelec field officers in the province will not join the plan unless there is a valid reason.
But if the issue will center only on their monetary benefits, he assured that the provincial office will ignore the plan.
Benjamin explained that the delay in receiving their benefits is not a reason to prejudice the scheduled election.
