Norsu prexy investiture set
By Joy G. Perez

DR. HENRY A. Sojor will be installed as first president of Negros Oriental State University (Norsu) during investiture rites at Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Complex on August 19.

In a special meeting last July 13, the results of which were released Thursday, the Norsu Board of Regents unanimously appointed Dr. Sojor as the state university's first president and to hold a four-year term until 2008.

"R.A. 9299 provides that the administration of the state university and the exercise of its corporate powers shall be vested exclusively in the Board of Regents and the president of the university insofar as authorized by the board," the incoming president explained.

R.A. 9299 is the Charter of the Negros Oriental State University.

Thursday's program will include an invocation by Bishop John F. Du of the Diocese of Dumaguete and welcome remarks by Dr. Cecilia Abringe, vice president for academic affairs of Norsu.

The investiture proper includes the reading of Sojor's appointment as first president of Norsu by Dr. Manuel D. Punzal, Commission on Higher Education Oversight Commissioner for Region 7 and chairperson of the Norsu Board of Regents.

Punzal and the board of regents, assisted by the president's wife, Dr. Mary Joy Torres-Sojor will administer the oath of office and the presentation of the Presidential Medallion and the University Mace.

Sojor's inaugural address focusing on the vision and mission of Norsu will follow.

Gov. George P. Arnaiz and Dr. Eldigario D. Gonzales, president of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges will deliver their separate greetings after the presidential address.

The program will include musical numbers by the Norsu Kabilin Choir, College of Engineering and Architecture Choir, and Norsu-Bais Choir.
