Cellphone snatchings, holdups continue By Syril G. Repe
THE series of hold-ups and cellphone snatchings continue to hit this City of Gentle People.
Two unidentified men held up a 22-year old victim along Candau-ay road infront of EL Pueblo Saturday evening.
The victim, Wendel Barba, single of Upper Batiguel told police he and a friend, Jasmin Lasota, were driving a motorcycle when two men armed with a knife and a .45 calibre pistol flagged them down.
Barba said he was forced at knife- and gunpoint to hand over his wallet with P150 cash, his pair of sandals and their ball caps to the hold-uppers.
He described one of the unidentified men as about 5'11" in height, medium-built, sported a crew-cut hair, crow cut, and the other as 5'5" in height, medium-built, and had curly hair.
Meanwhile two minors escaped from two unidentified motorcycle bandits when they shouted for help after one of the snatchers attempted to grab one of the victims' cellphone along Lower,Camanjac road Monday evening.
Menchit Marciana, 13 of Lower Camanjac described the bandits as in their 20s and both wearing bonnets.
The driver, she said had fair complexion while the backrider was about 5'2" and big-built.
Marciana said she and a friend, Mary Antonette Dizon, 14 also of Lower Camanjac, were walking when the unidentified men stopped near them and asked if they knew a certain Mark.
She said that when she replied asking who Mark was, the back rider suddenly pointed a knife on her right arm and tried to grab the cellphone on her hand.
Marciana said she fought off the attempt and screamed for help, forcing the bandits to flee.
A 24-year old resident of Sto. Nino in Barangay Banilad was not as successful as Marciana when two young motorcycle bandits snatched his P5,000 Nokia 3510 cellphone while he was walking with a friend Monday morning near the Bell Tower along Perdices Street.
Two days before that, last Saturday morning, a 24-year old woman lost her Nokia 6110 cellphone costing P16,500 inside an Ukay Ukay stall along Real Street.
Junaliza Umbac, of Barangay Bagacay said she placed her cellphone on the top of a showcase while she was waiting for her mother.
Minutes after, she said, she went out of the store to buy food across the street. On returning, she found her cellphone gone from the showcase.
