CIDG tags NBI agent in cop's slay By Nilo Abellon
THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) charged Hermes Son of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and a civilian in the killing of its own agent SPO2 Leopoldo Elumir last September 2 in Barangay Sacsac, Bacong.
CIDG-Negros Oriental team leader Bernardo J. Rosario filed Friday the murder charge against Son and the civilian named only as Toremocha before Judge Neciforo C. Inot of the Municipal Circuit Trial Court (MCTC) of Bacong-Valencia.
The Guardians Brotherhood chapter in Negros Oriental condemned the murder of Elumir whom it described as "an upright, active and loyal" Guardians.
"Brother Pol's death was perpetrated by lawless elements bent on pursuing their heinous intentions in maintaining havoc and creating disorder to suit their villainous ends," said the Guardians chapter resolution signed by its officials and founders Atty. Hrbert Timtim, Elalaine Teves, and Gen. "Bulls".
Witnesses said that before the incident they saw Elumir, who was driving his motorcycle, and two riders of another motorcycle talking while speeding on the same southward route around 11:30 on the evening of September 2.
They said that when the two vehicles reached Barangay Sacsac in Bacong, they heard gunshots. An unconfirmed report said another witness saw one of the riders fire on Elumir, hitting him on the head.
Son, the tagged suspect, is out on P180,000 bail bonds for charges of robbery with intimidation and illegal possession of firearms following his arrest in Vintage Inn last August for allegedly extorting money from a resident of San Jose extension, Dumaguete City.
A joint team from the city police and the CIDG arrested him after receiving a complaint from the San Jose resident Dixon Calimutan
