NBI nabs cop slay suspect By Maricar Aranas
NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents in Cebu arrested one of the two suspects linked to the September 2 killing of Senior Police Officer 2 Leopoldo Elumir in Barangay Sacsac, Bacong.
Elumir was an agent of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in the province.
NBI Negros Oriental chief Atty. Dominador Cimafranca said Torremocha's arrest, through a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 30 Judge Winston Villegas, was not linked to the CIDG agent's death but to another case for murder in Barangay Calo, San Jose two years ago.
NBI Cebu was to transfer the suspect to Negros Oriental Tuesday in time for the preliminary hearing of the Elumir slay case filed against him and NBI agent Hermes Son by the CIDG before the municipal trial court in Bacong.
CIDG Dumaguete chief Capt. Constancio Rosales said his men found at the Matiao wharf in Barangay Tampi, San Jose the bloodstained yellow dark-striped t-shirt the suspect wore during the killing of Elumir.
During interrogation, Rosales said, Torremocha pointed out where he discarded the shirt.
A witness to the killing testified in his affidavit that Torremocha, a resident of Motong, Dumaguete City was the driver of the motorcycle and Son his backrider when Elumir was gunned down.
Rosales said the CIDG will help Toremocha if he cooperated in the investigation on the whereabouts of Son who was believed to be the triggerman.
Witnesses said before the incident they saw Elumir, who was driving his motorcycle, and two riders of another motorcycle, talking while speeding on the same southward route around 11:30 on the evening of September 2.
They said that when the two vehicles reached Barangay Sacsac in Bacong, they heard gunshots. An unconfirmed report said another witness saw one of the riders fire on Elumir, hitting him on the head.
Son, the tagged suspect, is out on P180,000 bail bonds for charges of robbery with intimidation and illegal possession of firearms.
A joint team from the city police and the CIDG arrested him after receiving a complaint from a San Jose street resident Dixon Calimutan
