Tri-media members end 2-day gender seminar By Adrian Sedillo
MORE than 20 media members from different outfits in Dumaguete City as well as municipal public information officers in the province ended Wednesday a morning-session two-day gender sensitivity seminar-workshop at Plaza Maria Luisa.
The training re-oriented the participants on writing and reporting techniques in treating reports of child and women abuse.
The participants were also briefed on the provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9262, the law on violence against women and children.
The workshop focused on the theme "Engendering the media", a project of the technical working group of the Fifth Country Program Program for Children (CPC-5) of the Provincial Government and the United Nations Children's Fund.
In his speech on opening day, Governor George Arnaiz underscored the role of the media in disseminating information on the rights of children and women.
Arnaiz said RA 9262 may be harsh, but it must be followed.
Before ending his message, Arnaiz joked that the strict provisions of the new law may backfire on some members of Congress.
