Molotov bombs seized from Polo farmers By Neil C. Rio
TANJAY CITY -- Policemen found and confiscated Molotov cocktail bombs allegedly in the keep of agrarian reform beneficiaries outside the controversial Polo plantation past Thursday noon.
A report from the Provincial command of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Fernandez, Sibulan said, the Tanjay police went to Polo plantation after security guards there called for help.
The guards alleged that "several" agrarian reform beneficiaries were carrying guns and were attempting to burn a cargo truck from Central Azucarera de Bais that was at the plantation to haul sugar cane.
A Tanjay police team led by Inspector Rodolfo Rodriguez rushed to the area, inspected the makeshift shelters of the restless farmers and recovered 12 Tanduay bottles of homemade bombs.
The bottles contained gasoline and ammonium nitrate.
Police arrested Paquito Quilario, 54, married, of Barangay San Miguel, Tanjay City and director of the Polo Plantation Agrarian Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Popamco) who is now detained for possible filing of charges.
The incident is one of several violent happenings in the failed efforts of the agrarian reform beneficiaries to claim a portion of the estate awarded to them through the government's agrarian reform program.
