Scholarship program institutionalized By Edmund Sestoso
STA. CATALINA, Negros Oriental -- The Municipal Government has institutionalized its secondary and college scholarship programs to sustain them despite future changes in the political leadership.
Mayor Leon Lopez said the move complies with the policy of the national government to recognize the role of the youth in nation building and to promote and protect their intellectual growth.
Mayor Lopez said that with the approval of the scholarship program ordinance, the Municipal Government will increase its scholarship funds to accommodate more qualified poor but deserving students.
The mayor earlier created a scholarship committee that is headed by the chairman of the committee on education of the Municipal Council assisted by a representative from the Department of Education to recommend scholars to the screening committee.
The Municipal Government initially released P100,000 for the scholarship program under which a scholar gets a P500 book allowance and another P500 for uniform allowance.
