UCCP bishop clarifies 'arrest'
By Neil C. Rio and Adrian Sedillo

BISHOP Erme Camba of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) clarified Tuesday that he, along with pastors Ephraim Guerrero and Mike Camba were not arrested following an arrest order from the court last Monday, Feb. 7.

In fact, Bishop Camba told a media interview that the three of them voluntarily presented themselves to Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Teresita Abarquez-Galanida, who issued the order, the next day.

Camba said after negotiations, Judge Galanida agreed to reduce their bail bond from P24,000 each to P12,000 each.

The bishop, chairman of the local committee of the Ecumenical Broadcastoing Systems Foundation, Inc. (EBSFI) that manages radio station dySR-AM, clarified that the order was linked to the complaints of non-payment of the Social Security System (SSS) filed by EBSFI-dySR dismissed workers Nancy Ugsad-Estolloso, Jhongie Rumol, David Bryan Cortez, and Fred Paligsa.

Camba explained that the case was the last of four others the axed employees filed against EBSFI.

He said the court had earlier dismissed the estafa charge they filed against him and the two pastors for non-payment of the complainants' Pag-ibig contribution.

Two others, the complaints for non-remittance of The SSS and Philhealth contributions, are still pending in court, the bishop explained.

The UCCP leader said their lawyer has filed a motion for review before the Department of Justice over the resolution drawn up by the city fiscal's office and elevated to the court.

Meantime, Camba blamed Estolloso for the lapse in the payment of her and the three other complainants' SSS contribution.

He said he had reminded Estolloso since 2000 to process their SSS application, but that the then radio station manager had explained the processing was to be done by the EBSFI head office in Quezon City.
