City dogs to be taxed By Edmund Sestoso
OWNING a dog in Dumaguete City will be taxed almost two hundred pesos each with every household obliged to own only up to two dogs to minimize its population.
This was the gist of the approved ordinance by the Dumaguete City Council that is now subject to scrutiny by the members of the Provincial Board in its last Thursday's regular session.
Under Ordinance Number 21 pointed out that there should be an annual pre ownership licensing of dogs to be undertaken by the City Veterinarian. And to minimize population, licensing shall be limited to two dogs per household.
In the same ordinance, it was also mandated that every owner/possessor whose dogs are to be vaccinated, license and issued a tag and a vaccination certificate shall pay to the City Treasurer's Office a total of P165.00 per dog apportioned as follows P10.00-dog tag; P5.00 card; P50.00-vaccination and P40 initial license.
To ensure that no one will be engaged in the illegal possession of dogs, barangay officials are tasked to coordinate with the City Veterinarian's Office concerning the annual registration and licensing of dogs.
What is more laughable here is that Board Member Lea Ga-Bromo has moved to return the same with only a mistake of wrong computation of the taxes that would be taken from the licensing.
She pointed out that while the ordinance made mentioned of an amount P165.00 covering all the fees, when she computed the apportionment, it turned out that it is only P105.00.
Happy are the dog owners because the same was returned back to the City Council due to the wrong computation.
There would be months of delay before the dogs wear their ID cards and their masters should have a license to possess.
